Dr. Courtney Toth is a Research Associate at the University of Toronto and an emerging expert in environmental microbiology. Her research seeks to characterize how anaerobic microorganisms degrade pollutants—particularly benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX)—and their potential role in site remediation. In 2022, Dr. Toth received the Mitacs Award for Commercialization for her role in developing first-of-their-kind anaerobic bioaugmentation cultures for treatment of BTEX (DGG-Plus), in partnership with Dr. Elizabeth Edwards and SiREM Laboratories.
