Marian M Alvarez-Collins is an accomplished educator with over 30 years in bilingual education and leadership. Born in New York and raised between Puerto Rico and New York, her experiences have fostered a deep appreciation for cultural and linguistic diversity. An alumna of the University of Puerto Rico, Marian pursued her passion for education, later advancing her studies in a Master’s program focusing on innovative teaching and educational policy. Working within the Puerto Rico Department of Education, she has been pivotal in establishing and enhancing bilingual programs, reflecting her commitment to educational excellence and empowerment through language. Since 1997, Marian’s dedication to bilingual education deepened, making significant strides in the field as a speaker, author, and advocate. Presently, as the Vice-President of the Puerto Rico Association for Bilingual Education Inc., Marian continues to champion bilingual education, pushing for initiatives that promote language learning as a means for cultural exchange and educational opportunity. Her leadership extends beyond academia into influencing policy and practice, embodying her belief in education’s power to transform lives and bridge cultural divides.
