Biography

Saúl Isaac Maldonado is an Associate Professor at the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education (San Diego State University). Maldonado is also the co-director of the American Evaluation Association GEDI Scholars Program; and author and co-editor of the volume, Assessment and Evaluation in Bilingual Education (2022). Maldonado is the author of more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including Assessment, Accountability and Culture: Key Issues and Trends in The Handbook of Dual Language Bilingual Education. A former high school teacher and administrator of pre-collegiate programs, Maldonado investigates mathematics and science achievement in PK-12 schools, bilingual teacher education and culturally responsive evaluation and assessment using techniques such as propensity score matching and multi-level modeling on surveys, assessments, and observation protocols. Maldonado’s evaluation and coaching experience includes contributions to programs and initiatives for school districts, county offices of education, colleges, universities, federal agencies and philanthropic foundations.
