Biography

(Elyssa) Sierra Concha is a Lakota language dual immersion educator and K-8 Lakota Literacy Project Coordinator at Maȟpíya Lúta Owáyawa on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She has a Master of Arts degree in Indigenous Education and is currently teaching third and fourth grade Lakota Language Arts, as well as leading the school literacy project, which includes writing and creating leveled readers in the lakota language, as well as educational videos, games, and curriculum. Sierra has been involved in the Lakota dual immersion program as a part time multimedia consultant from 2016-2018, then was hired as a kindergarten lakota dual immersion educator. Since 2018, she has worked as an educator for both elementary and adult language learners.
