Biography

Mia Angélica Sosa-Provencio is an Associate Professor of Secondary Education in the Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, and Policy at the University of New Mexico. Prior to earning a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University, Mia taught 9th through 12th grade Language Arts for seven years at Rio Grande High School in the South Valley of Albuquerque. Her research highlights the role that local high school youth and their families can play in teacher education courses for pre-service educators; professional development aimed at culturally rooted pedagogy for K-12 classrooms; and culturally and geographically specific critical feminist ethics of care. Born in Las Cruces, Mia is a bilingual New Mexican with multigenerational roots dating back centuries in both Northern and Southern New Mexico as well as Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
