Dr. Edna Velásquez is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and coordinator of the Teaching Spanish major in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at SHSU. She earned her PhD in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Houston. Prior to that, she was a dual language teacher with the Houston Independent School District for eight years. She has trained and supervised pre-service teachers in bilingual education, English as a Second Language, and Spanish language in several school districts throughout Texas. Her research expertise includes Spanish as a heritage language and bilingual/ heritage language education. She has been supervising Spanish teacher certification at SHSU since 2019.
