Leila Flores-Dueñas received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Multilingual Studies: Bilingual Education, Teaching English as a Second Language, and Literacy Education. She is an associate professor at the University of New Mexico in the College of Education and Human Sciences, where she teaches courses in culturally responsive teacher preparation, social justice and education, community-engaged learning, bilingual education, and literacy education. She also specializes in teacher licensure programming. Her research interests address topics related to social justice and education, the role of culture and literacy learning, Latinx family literacy, and creative expression/arts-based learning for emergent Spanish/English bilinguals.
