Schuyler Community Schools
Evelyn Recinos-Menéndez was born and raised in Guatemala. She has been serving students from different parts of the world at Schuyler Community Schools for 15 years. Evelyn graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She later obtained a K-12 ESL endorsement from Wayne State College, a PK-12 Bilingual Education Endorsement, a master's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Bilingual Education from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and a Post Graduate Certification in Dual Language Immersion from the University of San Diego, California. Currently, she is participating in the EL/ML NABE Project UCCLA ASSETS Cohort and working towards a second master's degree at Internaciones Universidad Guatemala. Evelyn also volunteers as a UNUM ambassador, assisting families in a small village on the east coast of Guatemala, provides professional development as part of Global VIDA, and presents at national and international educational conferences. One of her main goals is to create a diverse and equitable learning environment by implementing a holistic, dynamic, multicultural, constructive educational framework in which every student can use their own linguistic and cultural resources. In addition to providing high-quality education, assisting families and her community is one of her top priorities.
