Empower the Voice
Energetic, enthusiastic, and committed education leader. Founder and CEO of Empower the Voice, a non-profit focusing on increasing opportunities for Hispanic students through empowering families to participate in leadership, language acquisition and the transition to college and career. With 12 years of experience in education, Sofía Núñez served Garland ISD in multiple capacities. As a teacher, she was fortunate to be recognized by her peers as Teacher of the Year for Handley El. (2014). From 2017 - 2023, she served as the Parent Engagement Facilitator. Her passion to support and empower families is evident in the programs she directed at Garland ISD, including ESL classes for adults, citizenship preparation, GED & computer literacy programs for families. She also created parent advisory committees, building the capacity of parents to support education, and provided professional development for teachers and district staff. In 2018, she attended the transformative Harvard Institute for Family Engagement, sparking her journey to complete an M.Ed in Education at Southern Methodist University. She has since been a featured presenter at conferences including the Texas Statewide Parental Involvement Conference, Title III Symposium, Region 10, Seidlitz, and the Texas Migrant Interstate Program.
