Genevie C. Rodríguez-Quiñones (she/her/ella) was born and raised on the WestSide of San Antonio. She is a proud product of UTSA where she earned B.A. degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies and Mexican American Studies in 2003 and a M.A. degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies in 2008. She completed her Bilingual Reading Specialist Certification in 2021 and is in her 2nd year in the PhD Culture, Language and Literacy program at UTSA. She has served her Edgewood ISD community for 21 years as a dual language teacher, Literacy Coach, and an International Baccalaureate Coordinator. Her passion for literacy has allowed her to share her knowledge of multicultural literature and culturally sustaining practices. She believes every student is deserving of seeing themselves, their family, and nuestra comunidad reflected meaningfully in literature. Her continued support of MAS includes participating in the MAS Teacher's Academy & Summit and leading the Mexican American Studies student program for 3rd – 5th grade students at her campus. There, she engages students in quality conversations around the contributions of the Mexican American community as well as makes space to explore how individuals and communities express themselves through their actions and their words. She gives thanks to her familia for their support and consejos as she continues to be an advocate for students, teachers, and communities!
