Biography

I am a marine biologist with 18 years of experience working in Research and Development. I hold a PhD in management and conservation of marine natural resources and I have worked/collaborated/studied in Mexico, Spain, New Zealand, Ireland and Portugal. I graduated from Western Washington University to obtain my teaching certification and I am currently a 5th grade teacher at West View Elementary, B-ESD (Washington State). I am a member of the National Science Teaching Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. My background as a Hispanic bilingual scientist has given me a unique perspective to teach students from K to college level using the science lens and its application in real-world situations. My experiences in life have provided the drive to inspire new generations of science literate citizens, especially groups underrepresented in science and oppressed by the educational system.
