Biography

My name is Sara Castro. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. My parents were immigrants from Mexico. As a child, I was in an early exit bilingual program until third grade and the rest of my education was in English until I attended college. I consider myself a simultaneous bilingual. At home my parents spoke only Spanish to me, but my sisters and I communicated in English with each other. My personal experiences have helped shape the educator that I am today. I am currently a first-grade bilingual teacher in Dallas, Texas. I have worked with my commonutiy to increase parent involvement. Last yea, I was named teacher of the year. have taught students from many countries and enjoy bringing their experiences and culture into our classroom. My classroom consist of a large number of newcomers. I have worked closely with my administration to ensure all their needs are met.
