Biography

Dr. Jessica C. Salazar is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas Wesleyan University. She holds a B.A. in Bilingual Education, a Master’s of Reading and an Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Wesleyan University. Prior to joining higher education, Dr. Salazar helped advocate and teach English Learners in public education for more than 20 years. She has served as a district Bilingual/ESL Instructional Coach, a Title Reading Specialist, a Bilingual Teacher, and a Bilingual Teacher Assistant. Dr. Salazar currently teaches Preservice Bilingual and ESL Education Teachers. Her courses pertain to effective best practices for enriching the students’ L1, bridging both L1 and L2, and language acquisition. Dr. Salazar also supervises clinical teachers in six different local school districts. Dr. Salazar has had the honor of presenting at many local, state, and national conferences. She is passionate for learning and teaching English Learners and plans to continue advocating for their best interest.
