Biography

Mary Cathryn Ricker is a board-certified middle school teacher currently serving as the executive director of the Albert Shanker Instiute, a thinktank dedicated to strengthening public education, worker voice, and democracy. Mary Cathryn was Minnesota's education commissioner before coming to the Shanker Institute. She has also served as the executive vice-president of the American Federation of Teachers and president of the Saint Paul Federation of Educators. In addition to earning her National Board Certification, Ms Ricker is an award-winning teacher whose classroom practice and writing has been featured locally, nationally, and internationally.
