Lisa Tabaku serves as Director of Dual Language and Multilingual Education at the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) where she provides culturally competent technical assistance (both professional development and program evaluations) to multilingual and dual language programs in the U.S. and abroad. At CAL, and previously at the American Institutes for Research, Lisa developed educational materials and provided professional development on effective and culturally relevant literacy and content instruction for students learning in a second language. Over the course of her career, she has directly taught multilingual learners in grades PreK-3 through 12. Lisa served in a variety of public-school roles in the U.S. These roles included Director of Civil Rights and Multicultural Affairs, Executive Director of the Office of Bilingual Education, Assistant Principal of a Spanish-English, dual-language elementary school, professional developer, grant writer, curriculum writer, federal National Professional Development grants coordinator, and bilingual and ESL teacher. Lisa is one of the authors of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition report, Dual Language Education Programs: Current State Policies and Practices (2015).
