Biography

Amy O’Connor Stolpestad, EdD, has more than 25 years of experience in the field of K-12 second language education, teacher education, teacher professional development, educational consulting, and leadership. She began her career teaching English and Spanish in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and later taught K-12 English Learners/Multilingual Learners (EL/ML) in Minneapolis and Saint Paul Public Schools. Dr. Stolpestad went on to serve as a teacher educator at The University of Minnesota and Hamline University, where she gained extensive experience developing courses and training for both pre-service and in-service teachers. Dr. Stolpestad has also consulted with education institutions across the United States, preparing teachers and school leaders to implement leadership models that support language development. These efforts are reflected in the School Wide English Learning (SWEL) Professional Development Series and the book Teacher Leadership for School-Wide English Learning, which she co-authored for TESOL Education and TESOL Press, respectively. In her current role, Dr. Stolpestad is responsible for leading LAS Links, PreLAS, and Bilingual Seal language solutions for Data Recognition Corporation. Prior to joining DRC, Dr. Stolpestad co-created and taught courses on language assessment, where she gained valuable knowledge that informs her current work. Dr. Stolpestad holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Organizational Change and Leadership from the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. She also has a Master of Education (MEd) in K-12 English as a Second Language teaching from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
