Dr. Olivia Hernández is a proud and confident Latina who values her Mexican American roots and celebrates her bilingualism and biculturalism every day. She has over 40 years of experience in bilingual education. Throughout her illustrious career, she has served as an ESL and bilingual teacher, assistant principal, principal of a dual language campus, bilingual director, and, most recently, as Assistant Superintendent for Learning, Language, and Literacy in San Antonio ISD. Although she is recently retired from public education, Dr. Hernandez currently works as a Southwest Region Consultant Partner at TNTP, where she helps advance innovative educational solutions for school districts in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. Dr. Hernández is also proud to be serving as the 2022 TABE President, helping the organization continue to advocate for bilingual teachers, administrators, students, and parents. She is proud of her lifelong work in education as she continues to strive towards helping school districts and other organizations redefine excellence in bilingual/dual language education for all students.
