Carl Wunsche Senior High School, Spring ISD
Rachael Stemple is an EB Specialist in Spring ISD at Carl Wunsche Senior High School. She has previously worked as an ESOL II and Creative Writing teacher and a Multilingual Program Specialist in Houston ISD. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from University of Houston with a B.A. in English Literature and Spanish Language, she joined HISD's Alternative Certification Program. Rachael recently completed her Master of Education in TESOL from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, while simultaneously earning her Second Language Instruction certificate. She has been lucky enough to service all levels and proficiencies of Emergent Bilingual students in her educational career. Biliteracy and bilingualism has always been a passion of Rachael's, since she began taking Spanish classes in college. She studied abroad in Cuba, working directly with poets to translate their work into English. In the published work, Cuba 9x19, Rachael provided translations and served as an editor for all English translations. In 2018, she attended a seven week Spanish immersion school at Middlebury college, giving her insight into the immersive experience of Emergent Bilingual students in the US school system. Additionally, she wrote her Senior Honors thesis on the cross-cultural benefits of Spanish to English literary translation.
