Biography

Kim Baker is a Senior Product Equity Enablement Manager in the Equity and Inclusion Office at HMH. She brings 10 years of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) learning and development experience and 28 years of experience as an educator. Kim’s leadership in the DEI space supports content and has involved trainings and workshops such as: Examining Bias and Privilege, Deficit Ideology, and White Allyship, utilizing research like Dr. David Campt’s White Ally Toolkit. Kim designed the staff professional learning for the professional learning equity suite and created the Content Equity Team to support Content Solutions in removing barriers to equity for students. Kim holds a Master of Education Degree, a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) credential, and is currently working on her Doctor of Education Degree in Diversity and Equity in Education at the University of Illinois. Her research is in inclusive leadership practices and how LGBTQ+ employees experience belonging at work. She is a volunteer facilitator for Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), a local and national group that calls on White people to participate in the movement for racial justice. Kim’s fundamental belief is that by examining our own status and building our racial literacy we can work collectively to disrupt inequity and work for social justice.
