Biography

Janae Chia serves as a Program Specialist for the Teaching & Learning department at AVID Center with a focus on multilingual learner education. At AVID, Janae designs lessons, materials and resources for educators that support multilingual learners on their language acquisition journey and pathway to post-secondary success. Also, she develops and facilitates professional learning opportunities that aim to empower elementary and secondary-level educators to enhance student engagement and promote access to content for multilingual learners. Prior to this role, Janae served as an instructional mentor in the Salem-Keizer School District. Her eight years of teaching experience include English Language Arts, the AVID Excel elective, and reading intervention. Janae holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, and Master of Education in Instructional Design. In both traditional educational settings and her own independent studies, Janae consistently works towards enhancing and honing her skills. Her goal is to better assist her fellow educators in nurturing students' success.
