Dr. Lillian Ardell has nearly two decades of experience working with Emergent Bilingual (EBs) learners and the teachers who serve them. She began her career as a dual language teacher in New York City, working in second and fourth grade classrooms. There she led a team of teachers to develop a Spanish phonics curriculum as well as build out a series of biliteracy-writing rubrics for use in K-5 dual language classrooms. Lillian’s passion to conduct research led her to obtain a doctorate in Bilingual Education from NYU's Steinhardt School of Education, where she became interested in teacher attitudes towards language and the complex ways these views inform their work with EBs (her study has appeared in the prestigious TESOL Quarterly Journal). She is developing a biliteracy and bilingual assessment handbook for teachers, as well as partnering with Universities and Think Tanks in a consulting capacity. Her main focus is designing and leading professional development for schools at the district and local levels.
