Biography

Jill Carter is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Education at the University of Texas at Tyler. She has served in the field of bilingual education in various roles over the past 15 years: EL Instructional Lead, Reading Academy Cohort Leader, dyslexia teacher, reading interventionist, and elementary dual language teacher. She also served as an adult ESL/EFL instructor for approximately 14 years and has taught in both the U.S. and Guatemala. She holds an M.A. in linguistics, an M.ED. in literacy, and a Ph.D. in adult education. Jill is especially passionate about language, literacy, and working with educators to maximize student learning. She strongly believes that bilingualism and biliteracy are assets and that students should be supported in developing their native language in addition to their new language.
