Biography

Dr. Hsiao-ping Wu received her Ph.D. in Culture, literacy and language from the University of Texas – San Antonio in 2011. She is associate professor in the bilingual and ESL education program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She joined the bilingual education and ESL program in 2011, and teaches a wide variety of subjects including second language education foundation, second language pedagogy, and applied linguistics for teacher candidates. Her teaching philosophy values student-teacher interaction, inclusiveness, self-directed learning, authenticity, and experiential learning in bilingual and ESL education. Her research areas focus on second language error analysis, computer-mediated communication (CMC), digital literacy, English as a second (ESL) teacher identity, Bilingual/ESL teacher educator preparation, computer-assisted language learning (CALL). Currently, she is also the Co-PI of the Department of Education funded project of Aspiring students to advance professionally to teach (ASAP2TEACH) and serve English learners, parents, and communities. In addition, her research areas continue to explore international students in the U.S., and she aims to support the university’s vision to embrace international students on campus.
