Diane Howitt has served in positions of leadership and instruction in the fields of ESOL, bilingual education and world languages for over fifty years in NYC and the Lower Hudson Valley. As a veteran teacher and administrator in the New York City Department of Education, she delivered her message of advocacy, integrity and the cultivation of outstanding academic achievement for all English Language Learners. During her 18-year tenure at Fordham University’s Center for Educational Partnerships, Diane served as Director of Fordham’s Lower Hudson Valley BETAC, Resource Specialist for the BETLA and New York City RBERN, and currently as the NYC RBERN Executive Director. Her profound knowledge of second language acquisition and related programs (K-12), bilingual education, world language instruction, literacy instruction, state initiatives, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive educational practices, program design and implementation and cutting-edge research equip her to understand and respond to the needs of the Multi-Lingual Learners in New York City. Her entire career has been devoted to improving educational practices and outcomes for all English learners and advocating for ELL students and their families.
