Biography

Dr. Torres Elías is Professor in the Department of Literacy and Learning at Texas Woman’s University (TWU), where she also serves as a Descubriendo la Lectura and Reading Recovery Trainer. She holds a M.Ed. in Elementary Education with emphasis in Reading Education and Bilingual Education from TWU, and a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with emphasis in Modern Languages from the Universidad de Puerto Rico. Her areas of expertise include early literacy, early literacy intervention, and bilingual education. Annette’s over 20 years of experience in higher education include teaching courses in the areas of reading education, bilingual/ESL education, and multicultural education. Her research interests include early literacy, early literacy intervention, biliteracy, and the education of linguistically and culturally diverse students.
