New International School of Japan
Steven Parr is the Founding Director/Head of School of New International School of Japan, established in 2001. He is a graduate of Brown University (BA) and UCLA (MA) and he holds a Certificate of International School Leadership from The Principals’ Training Center and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension. 19 years of experience as an administrator and sometimes also a teacher at a traditional textbook-based English curriculum international school combined with attendance at numerous conferences and workshops convinced him that a New School approach to education was imperative for the current and future generations of students. This led to the establishment of New International School of Japan, which is both multiage and dual language by design. The four-member Executive and Advisory Council of the School includes Professor Emeritus Kazuko Nakajima of the University of Toronto and Dr. Michael Bostwick, Founding Director of the English Immersion Program at Katoh Gakuen in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The multiage structure of the school was inspired by Dr. Sandra Stone, Founder of the Multiage Institute at Northern Arizona University. The school currently has about 280 students from PreK age 3 to Grade 12.
