Biography

Dr. Alba A. Ortiz is Professor Emerita, Department of Special Education, College of Education, at the University of Texas at Austin. At UT, she held the President’s Chair for Education Academic Excellence and directed the College’s Office of Bilingual Education. Dr. Ortiz is a nationally recognized expert on the education of English Learners, including those with language and learning disabilities. A Past President of the Council for Exceptional Children, she is currently a co-editor of NABE’s Bilingual Research Journal. Dr. Ortiz is a co-founder of ELLAS Consulting (English Learner Leadership, Advocacy, Support).
