Biography

Linda Cavazos, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of ELLAS Consulting (English Learner Leadership Advocacy Support). She is a national biliteracy expert on the science of reading for multilingual learners and guides effective instruction and intervention for students. She is the biliteracy expert on the science of reading for multilingual learners for several state Departments of Education, local education agencies, and national groups. In recent years, she has written broadly on evidence-based practices for multilingual learners. Dr. Cavazos is a technical assistance provider and researcher with 32 years of experience in education supporting the needs of multilingual learners. She began her professional career as a bilingual English and Spanish teacher before becoming a bilingual reading interventionist. Dr. Cavazos has provided capacity building, technical assistance, and coaching at the national, state, and local levels that include professional development and the creation of tools and resources to support instruction for multilingual learners. She conducts research in the science of reading, multilingual learner programs, and culturally and linguistically responsive multi-tiered system of supports. Her research focuses on how these topics intersect and on improving the academic outcomes of multilingual learners. Dr. Cavazos received her doctorate in Multicultural Special Education from the University of Texas at Austin.
