Milwaukee Public Schools
Over the last 12 years, Dr. Sara Bolster, has been an innovative educator in an urban public school in Wisconsin. She has focused on Translanguaging with Bilingual Spanish/English students, Bilingual Gifted and Talented education, technology incorporated lessons, project-based learning, art influenced lessons, students’ choice, and advocating for her English Learners in a bilingual program. She wrote her master’s thesis on “Project-Based Learning in a Science Class, in an Urban Public School”. Dr. Bolster graduated with her Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Bolster wrote her doctoral dissertation on “Bilingual Teachers Embracing Translanguaging in an Urban Public School District”. Her hope is that this work can influence urban districts to train staff on the effects of teachers embracing Translanguaging in their classrooms. With this information Dr. Bolster recently published a Translanguaging Observation Journal for Preservice Bilingual Educators and/or Educators to see what Embracing Translanguaging "looks like" in a bilingual classroom, and it's benefits to the students and teacher alike.
