Fred is the Director of the Dalton Cumbrian Facility (DCF), an international user facility, situated in the scenic Cumbrian countryside. His research concerns both experiments and modelling of radiation processes of relevance to healthcare and/or the nuclear industry. At DCF we have world-leading radiation facilities along with state-of-the-art scientific equipment housed in a modern laboratory which benefits from being situated in one of the most scenic parts of the country. We can deliver gammas at dose rates up to 20 kGy/hour from a Co-60 source and proton (up to 10 MeV energy) and heavier ion beams from its two accelerators.
