Dr Clare Thorpe received her PhD from the University of Manchester, in 2012, for exploring the 'Biogeochemistry of Radioactively Contaminated Land'. She has since worked with natural systems to explore microbe, metal, mineral interactions relevant to the nuclear industry. In 2016, Clare moved to the University of Sheffield, Materials Science and Engineering Department to transfer her skill set to the corrosion of man-made materials. Clare is currently researching the long term behaviour of vitrified radioactive wastes in complex natural environments.
