Biography

I have been an educator for over 20 years, and I have supervised the programs for English Language Learners and the World Language Department, as the Director of Language Acquisition for the past 11 years in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District. I also have over 10 years of teaching experience, including eight years as a Bilingual/ Dual Language teacher. In addition, I have also taught in monolingual classroom and bilingual special education settings during my tenure in my previous district. I have been part of the NYSED ELL Leadership Council for the past ten years. I am also a committee member on the NYSED World Language Leadership Council, and I have been a member of the NYS Seal of Biliteracy Task Force for several years. I have also served as Third Reader of the Final Dissertation Defense Committee for the Russell Sage College Educational Leadership Doctoral Program. As a Director of Language Acquisition, I am responsible for providing leadership in the oversight and improvement of all Language Acquisition Programs in our district. Throughout my career in education, I have been a passionate advocate for equity in education for English Language Learners. Thus, my research study focus was on the support that must be provided to building principals in order to develop their cultural responsiveness to meet the needs of ELLs in their schools.
