Biography

Mr. Heinonen joined the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in September 2002. He leads STUK’s section for Nuclear Waste Facilities Regulation, which is responsible for the regulatory oversight of nuclear waste facilities design, construction and operation in Finland. He has MSc degree in material sciences from Helsinki University of Technology. Lately he has been involved in oversight of spent nuclear fuel interim storage design and construction, spent nuclear fuel encapsulation plant design and licensing process of Olkiluoto disposal facility.
