Tony Umek is vice president of Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS). Named to this position in 2007, he leads the ESH&Q program at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site. In this role, he has sitewide responsibility for occupational safety and health, medical services, hazardous materials, safeguards, security, emergency services, radiological protection, environmental management and the quality assurance program. He also ensures the ESH&Q program is compliant with DOE contract requirements. Under his leadership, SRNS has achieved several significant safety milestones, earning DOE’s Voluntary Protection Program Star Status and recognition by the National Safety Council.
