Abstract

A small hydro power station was designed at Tsanga River in Nyanga. Nyanga is one of rural communities in Zimbabwe that heavily depends on wood for fuel. This development intends to curb the cutting down of trees as more electricity will be available from the grid. Site data was mainly collected from responsible authorities and was used in the designing of Civil works and Electro-mechanical equipment (turbine and generator). The total cost of the project is US$1 339 000. The Net Present Value of the project after a 15year period would be US$1 694 583. This project is within the financial viability limit of the Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Authority that is to implement it therefore is a success.

The implementation of this project will assist the environment greatly by saving the trees and supplying people with a more environmentally friendly source of power.
