Abstract

Lean organizations have the dual advantages of increased flexibility and increased response time. Because of this reason, many industries the world over have been transitioning themselves to become lean. An effort has been made in this article to present how the value stream mapping (VSM) tool can be used in identifying different forms of waste, methodically, in a solenoid valve manufacturing company and also how it has helped in improving the productivity of the organization. In this article, the current value stream map is drawn for the manufacturing line. The current value stream map shows the different non-value-added activities in the manufacturing line. The value stream map also shows the production lead time. The current value stream map is then evaluated and the Future value stream is then proposed.
