Abstract

The redesign of the smart trash bin aims to make it easier for users to dispose of trash in its place and reduce environmental pollution. Most people are lazy to throw trash in its proper place because if people want to throw trash, they must first open the lid of the trash that is what causes laziness to arise because many of the trash bin covers are dirty and smelly. In smart trash products that have been designed, several advantages are obtained, namely the lid of the trash bin opens and closes automatically, and it can sort wet and dry waste according to their respective containers. In addition, several weaknesses were found, and redesign was needed to improve several components. There are 2 (two) types of trash bins that are used as benchmarking, namely smart trash bins and automatic trash bins. Existing Smart Trash bin products will be redesigned using the Reverse Engineering and VDI 2221 methods. The Reverse Engineering method serves to improve a component of a new product that has more advantages than existing products. The VDI 2221 method itself is used to pay attention to the fulfillment of various aspects of comfort, safety, practicality, ease of use, maintenance, repair and security. The final results obtained from the redesign of the smart trash bin have success in the trash bin lid that can open and close automatically, conformity in the classification of waste according to the type of wet and dry waste correctly 100% and an increase in the capacity of the trash bin tank by 28%.
