Abstract

The productivity of the production process is expected to be increased by better health working conditions. PT Graha Adikarya Logam is a company engaged in the sheet metal processing industry. One of the processes in sheet metal processing is the bending process. When working on a small bending machine work station, the operator was standing on a long duration therefore the operator experienced some physical fatigues. The research was conducted to identify the physical fatigues felt by the operator so that a swivel chair can be designed to reduce the the physical fatigues felt by the operator. Nordic Body Map analysis was carried out to identify physical fatigues on operator’s various body parts. RULA analysis is carried out to identify the work risk level based on the operator working posture. After the types and causes of operator’s physical fatigues was known, designing concept of the swivel chair can be conducted. Product Design and Development Method is used to find concept variation of the swivel chair according to the operator needs. Engineering Design Method (VDI2221) is used to select the swivel chair concept in accordance with the technical specification. After implementing the swivel chair, it was found that the physical fatigues felt by the operator was reduced and the working time at the small bending machine work station was decreased.
