Abstract

Electricity is the most important basic need in South Africa which is the developing country as a whole, like all other countries. KwaZulu Natal (KZN) region is the province in South Africa that is affected by the growth of electricity demand in it municipalities. Municipalities (e.g. Ethekwini municipality) are the one that responsible for electricity supply and regulatory in the KwaZulu Natal communities as a whole. In the past few years, some areas in KZN region continued to experience electricity low shading, while others areas do not have access to electricity at all. The main challenge in the electricity supply is non continuous of electricity supply in the region. This affected the economic performance of the region badly. The main aim is to increase the electricity supply reliability in the region and to boost the economy performance of the region. Simulation model will be used to address the changing electricity demand in KZN region. The use of simulation model will assist in reduction of electricity short fall. This will assist in mitigation of the unfortunate electricity supply in the KZN region. Reliable and cheap electricity supply still need to be investigated in the near future.
