Abstract
Todays’ world has resulted in extremely more complex traditional supply chains, where technological changes in the economy happen fast. It becomes more complex with emergence of digital technology (dtech), which is disrupting traditional supply chain operations. Traditional businesses cannot unlock full potential of dtech without reinventing their supply chain strategies. Most companies understood the nature of these changes and introduced dtech in their operations, however, mere introduction of dtech is not the answer for competitiveness advantage. We propose an approach that looks at the fundamental differences between traditional supply chains that have been enhanced digitally and truly integrated or reinvented supply chain with digital DNA. It is demonstrated in the study that for businesses to reap maximum benefits of digital supply chain models, it is important to internalize it as an integral part of the overall business model. Localized, disconnected initiatives, and silo based operations pose a serious threat to competitiveness in an increasingly digital world. It enables people and data, as well as material, products and supplies to travel together across the extended enterprise. A holistic approach to digital transformation of supply chain, starting with digital strategy and digital operating model will set the direction for integrated execution.
