Abstract

The study seeks to develop an evaporative cooler that can assist the small scale agro producers in preserving and maintaining the quality of vegetables, to avoid the deterioration which may result in possible decline in market value. It was established that the lack of cheap and effective preservation methods has constantly created a problem for small scale farmers in the country. Three cooling system concepts were generated. The best solution was chosen by the use of binary dominance matrix for further development into a detailed design development. Simulations were done using solid works on the operations of the unit. Also cost and evaluations were carried to test the feasibility of the concept implementation. It was recommended that tests be carried out before large scale production of the refrigerator to accommodate any relevant practical adjustments for functionality.
