Abstract

The fact is that 30 lakh graduates join the Indian job market every year but only 5 lakh are considered employable. There is a prevailing skill gap in the IT industry, due to a constant mismatch between the skills possessed by individual and the organization requirement. Skill Development is one of the essential ingredients for India’s future economic growth as the country transforms into a diversified and internationally competitive strategy. The gap exists due to the constant change in technology, change in industry requirements, the present curriculum in institutions is out-dated and the tier of an institution being criteria for organisations to hire. A survey method was adapted to collect primary information from fresh college graduates, unemployed college graduates and employees. The study gives us insights on how the academia has helped in reducing the skill gap, and provide answers on whether there is need for any additional training required and the curriculum has been constantly updated. Also provide various suggestions to curb the gap between individual expectations and industry requirements.
