Abstract

Background:

Smart mobility is one of the essential pillars of smart cities. The proper management of smart mobility will create an optimized and sustainable smart city. For these reasons, the field of intelligent transport remains a sector that attracts the attention of researchers, hence the need for a scoping review on this topic.

Objective:

In this paper, we intend to make a scoping review (a.k.a Systematic Mapping Study) on the topic of Intelligent Mobility Management (IMMS) in order to clarify and show the status of relevant articles that deal with the IMMS topic.

Method:

We applied the Scoping review process proposed by Peterson (Petersen et al., 2008; Petersen, Vakkalanka and Kuzniarz, 2015), which is based on a research method already applied in the field of medicine. 266 relevant articles were selected, then a classification framework was applied to extract the information needed to make an in-depth analysis on IMMS. This analysis gave us a clear vision on the subject and to produce a state-of-the-art.

Result:

We describe the process of a scoping review applied to the IMMS subject. On this basis, the work contributions are as follows: 1) a general framework for classifying information from studies that address this area of specialization, 2) a presentation of current research on the aforementioned subject, 3) a discussion of the results and their implications in future research.

Conclusion:

The application of this scoping review provided us with a general overview of the IMMS topic and helped us to identify its gaps and trends. One of the conclusions learned from the scoping review is that the IMMS topic is an active one that is attracting the attention of researchers and still has problems (or a set of open issues) to be addressed.
