Abstract

The brewing process of the company under study had been taking longer than the standard time hence affecting productivity. The purpose of the research paper was to improve productivity by minimizing the ineffective time. The researchers set objectives which were to identify intervention areas for productivity improvement and to identify ways of eliminating idle time using work sampling and method study. A causal research design was employed in order to determine the causes of ineffective time and its effect on productivity. Data was collected using direct observations, company records and personal interviews and it was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using work sampling and method study. The findings separated employee’s and machine working time from idle time. The researchers recommended that the company acquires advanced material handling systems; invest in sustainable energy and employee training especially in productivity improvement programs so as to enhance worker skills and knowledge.
