Abstract

Human multitasking is becoming a part of daily job performance in modern work environments. During multitasking, a person’s ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously is critical to performance, and the failure to shift one’s attention accordingly may result in serious errors. Such errors may result in occupational health and safety risks, accidents, damage to infrastructure and performance decrements. In recent years, human multitasking has received considerable attention. Error management has been an active area of research. This article surveys error management research in multitasking environments, and highlights the research challenges in this field.
