The Prediction of Needs of Humanitarian Aids Logistics for Merapi Eruption Victims in Sleman Yogyakarta

Abstract

This study aims to predict the logistical needs of victims of Mount Merapi eruption disaster in Sleman District. Mount Merapi was chosen as the object of research because Mount Merapi is the most active mountain in Indonesia and has eruption cycle of 2-7 years. Efforts to manage logistics in the event of disaster by the authorities – in this case BPBD Sleman – is still responsive which impact on the ineffectiveness in handling logistics disaster. The problems that occur in the management of emergency response include oversupply of relief goods on certain types whereas other types of relief goods do not appropriate with the number of demand. The forecasting method used in this research is cut and fit in disaggregation process. This study details the needs of the victims according to the age and sex category where there are 6 categories, namely age 0-2 years, men aged 3-5 years, women aged 3-5 years, men aged 6-59 years, women Age 6-59 years and elderly with age > 60 years old. The process of prediction calculation in this research is done in each evacuee camp in Sleman District. The results of this study are expected to provide an information for the Government and the community to manage of the emergency response period, especially on the prediction of the number of logistical needs of victims of Merapi eruption disaster in the affected areas. Thus, disaster logistics handling can be managed more effectively and efficiently.
