Abstract
The DOSH Malaysia has developed Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry (Management) 2017 (OSHCIM) which is based on “Safe by Design” concept, where clients, designers and contractors need to work together. The purpose of this study is to investigate the readiness of clients, designers and contractors on OSHCIM implementation. Questionnaires were employed to obtain the perception on OSHCIM implementation readiness from the clients, designers and contractors. The number of responses obtained from clients, designers and contractors are 28, 99 and 106 responses respectively. The results on OSHCIM implementation readiness from these three groups were compared. The overall results show that all the three groups generally supporting the OSHCIM implementation, however, the designers believe OSHCIM will increase additional cost, additional manpower and additional documentation and procedure. This means that the designer is less receptive compare with the other two groups of ideas to integrate safety in design that they produced. The clients score the lowest among two groups in attending a formal construction safety and training. It shows clients have very weak knowledge of safety and will result in putting safety in less priority compare to project cost, quality and delivery. In conclusion, OSHCIM implementation will improve the coordination and collaboration between clients, designers and contractors.
