Abstract

From literature review, it has been found that much research has been carried out to link stature of specific population to their body parts. However, no such research has been carried out on Omani population. Therefore, the aim of this study is to fill this gap by developing statistically significant correlation that can be applicable for forensic anthropology between the stature and hand length and breadth of Omani population. This study was carried out in a group of 539 Omani population out of which 245 are males and remaining are females. The age of male subjects are between 19 and 68. While, female subjects are aged from 15 to 64. The subjects are selected by convenience sampling method from different locations such as the public university, police-training academy, and high school. The taking of anthropometric data is a sensitive issue to some people who may refuse to be measured especially in the Arab culture. Simple regression equation and multiplication factor for male and female, and for each age group were derived for estimation of stature.  From the results it showed that stature can be accurately estimated from HL and HB by using simple regression equation or multiplication factor.
