Abstract
Purpose
The tantalizing potential of digital technologies in metamorphosing learning is now acknowledged by educationists, organizations and policy makers but the adoption of technology in learning sector seems to be on lower side .These changing times of industry 4.0 requires the successful adoption of Information and communication technologies in education sector to impart key skills in students in the changing times.
The objective of this work is identification key benefits of ICT in education and potential barriers for its implementation in education system.
Design /Approach / Methodology
This research is based on critical review of the literature and a qualitative questionnaire based survey of educators, policy makers, trainers & consultants working towards adoption of technologies in leaning sector
Findings
Despite of all the focus on spending in ICT infrastructure, there is a little adoption of ICT in education sector. The education sector also needs to adopt ICT to improve the processes and impart these skills to students in 21st century. This study determines the current status of Indian schooling sector towards adoption of technologies, associated barriers and proposals for radical transformation of the learning sector.
Research limitations/implications
This research is largely qualitative and thus would have certain limitations related to generalizability. The challenges and proposed measures identified in this paper will support policymakers, researchers, academicians and practitioners for the development of strategic plans to accelerate the implementation of technology in Indian schooling
