A Technology Foresight Perspective On Household Waste Management Practices

Abstract

Waste management is  very crucial as it will affect the environment as well as  human population. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the trend of household waste management  using foresight study. This study used STEEPV analysis to determine the trend of household waste management in housing area for the subsequent five years  around Parit Raja, Johor Malaysia. A set of questionnaire had been distributed to 400 respondent in Parit Raja housing area with 94 percent rate of response. Impact- Uncertainty analysis had been utilized to analyse the data collected. The two key drivers with the most significant impact and uncertainty were determined to be lack of  household knowledge on technology waste management and trust.  Four possible scenarios are highlighted in this study. In a nutshell, related parties such as the government and local authorities should take initial steps to prevent immoral waste management and  for the next generations benefits.
